Newest Industry Presents - Flatbasset Radio: Episode #30 (w/MinneSarah)

Hot damn! It's a new day...

Hello again, free music fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #30!

For those of you who are unaware of the Flatbasset Radio format, here's what you're looking at: TCDroogsma is our resident MP3 junkie. As you've probably noticed in his Songs Of The Week column, he's not always the most positive music fan. In an effort to prove that he is, in fact, a fan of music, we give him an hour each week to play the songs he's digging and talk a little bit about them. Once he's recorded his podcast we put it right here on the website for free to stream and/or download!

In this week's episode TCDroogsma travels to St. Paul to record the podcast with MinneSarah.  Along the way they discuss Droogsy's "practical hypocrisy," wonder what would happen if Sondre Lerche dated Miley Cyrus, play a bunch of songs by "lil' dudes," wonder about MC Hammer's motives, lament the upcoming Jarvis Cocker-less year, discuss one of the Twin Cities bright, young rappers, wonder how Kelley Deal got hotter than her twin sister, shout out their favorite vegan chef, whore out for that Breville money, and discuss the connection between their high school chemistry teacher and this week's Flatbasset Flatclassic!

You can download the podcast for free by clicking the episode's title or stream the episode by clicking on the Mixcloud player below.

Newest Industry Presents: Flatbasset Radio - Episode #13

Gimme the loot, gimme the loot!

Well hello again, music junkies! Welcome to the 13th episode of our podcast Flatbasset Radio!

For those of you who don't know quite what you're looking at, here's the story. Each week TCDroogsma reviews songs for our Songs Of The Week column. Since he's usually down on those songs we asked him to start recording a weekly podcast for us to show us that, yes, he is actually a music fan and deserves to keep his post.

This week is Membership Drive week here at Newest Industry! TCDroogsma (and Newest Industry) implore all of our listeners/readers to make a donation. Remember, with every donation we'll send you a bumper sticker that says, “I Make Newest Industry Happen.” Put it on your car's bumper that way you can drive around and show off to everybody just how smart, hip, and culturally aware you are! Plus, you know everybody hates just walking around and thinking, “Boy, that's fine car, but I'd just like to know more about that person. What do they believe in? How do they spend their money? How can I acquire this information without actually talking to them?” Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

In this week's episode TCDroogsma shamelessly whores out for donations, laments the breakup of the only prog-rock band he ever liked, plays us his new personal theme song, questions whether any good music has come out since 1998, struggles to explain his “renowned” big things/little things theory, and plays us one of his favorite love songs.

Click here to download the podcast for free or click the player below to give it a listen.

Here's how it breaks down:

01. The Mars Volta – Son Et Lumiere/Intertiatic E.S.P.
02. The Roots – Don't Feel Right
03. The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Can't Stop
04. Notorious B.I.G. - Gimme The Loot
05. My Bloody Valentine – New You
06. Paper Tiger – Rides
07. Lifter Puller – Manpark
08. Kool A.D. - Bering Sea Gold
09. John Vanderslice – White Dove
10. Lil' Wayne – Sorry 4 The Wait
11. Graham Wright – Medicine Hat

There you have it! We accept cash, check, money order, foreign money, beer, sandwiches, brandy, & compliments! Become a sustaining member today!

For more TCDroogsma, be sure to give him a follow on Twitter (@TCDroogsma). He's usually rambling on about something or other.

Newest Industry Presents: Flatbasset Radio - Episode #10

L, M, N, O, bitches...

Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #10!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Flatbasset Podcast, here's the story. TCDroogsma is one of our regular contributors. Specifically, he regularly contributes to our Songs Of The Week column. Since he's typically very negative regarding those tracks, we put him to work recording a weekly podcast that shows that yes, he does actually like music.

This week TCDroogsma's celebrates the episode's complete lack of structure, compares naval officers to cocaine pushers, lashes out at James Brown, names his favorite rapper/convicted sexual criminal, goes on a pretty epic rant about his hatred for David Bowie, becomes the first person in history to find comfort in Lou Barlow's voice, explains how to turn your apartment into The Herkimer, and drops a new (old) Flatbasset Flatclassic!

Click the player above to give the podcast a listen. Click the title below to download the podcast for yourself. Always free. Always, errr... tolerable.

  1. Silversun Pickups – There's No Secrets This Year
  2. Mystikal – Hit Me
  3. The Clash – Lost In The Supermarket
  4. Clipse – Virginia
  5. Paul Westerberg – My Road Now
  6. Built To Spill – Temporarily Blind
  7. Central Services – Work For The Government
  8. David Bowie – Where Are We Now?
  9. Sebadoh – Soul And Fire
  10. Kool A.D. (w/Kassa) – Arrested Development
  11. Nick Cave – Disco 2000
  12. Black Star (w/Common) – Respiration

If you somehow need more TCDroogsma he can be found on Twitter (@TCDroogsma). He can also be found rambling away on his personal Flatbasset blog. Just to reiterate, he believes Mystikal is better than James Brown and Lou Barlow is better than David Bowie. And somehow he's still one of our contributors.

Enough “Likes” and TCDroogsma promised to listen to “Heroes” all the way through without complaining.
